DO NOT BUY ELITE HEATERS

Post by mellychops on Thu Jul 16, 2009 8:27 pm

I know we had a thread about these somewhere before but they are seriously dangerous!!!! I only had 1 left in a tank until today when poor Alaska and Eros were nearly fried. Luckily we just noticed and have given them a new one. I couldn't afford to replace all of them and left that tank with an Elite big mistake!!!! If you do have one I'd suggest checking the temp regulary.

if you do have one, get rid of them, they are as dodgy as Vanbettas AKAs on selected forums lolol it never pays to buy cheap heaters or filters. the most expensive sometimes dont do as good a job as the middle priced items. Always go for the middle product or an expensive brand that you truely trust.

I bought the Elite from our local pet shop about a year ago as an emergency because ours broke. It cost £24 I thought it must have been a good one at that price LOL. I will never buy anything without looking stuff up again lesson learnt!!!!

Most of mine are Elite, some i've had for 2 years and never had any problems. Oh apart from the time I forgot to turn one off when water changing and took level below heater. Was hell of a bang when fresh water went on it, frightened me to death. The little plastic bit on bottom melted and flew right across the tank in a thin line

Yep, I am waiting on my new visi-therm as we speak. Had to replace my Elite as I was so scared my fish was gonna boil it just wasn't worth the stress. I will feel much happier when that is in the tank. I keep checking the temp everytime I go into the kitchen, Im obsessed..

My visi-therm has arrived !!!! So the elite has been relegated to spares box. Feel much safer now....It is just in tank now, giving it time to adjust to water temp before switch on, though I did test it worked first.

BTW it shows it vertical in instructions, will it be okay if I run it vertical as I prefer it this way in tank, it has water flow from top down corner of tank right over heater, mild current bit still movement........I know people say its better angled but it causes a few odd spaces that way and a curious fish could get stuck/burnt, upright is less interesting lol

I've never actually come across any of their heaters in the shops down here. We've got quite a few of their tanks. Will have to google the heaters to see what they are like and how much.
