Fish compatible with Bettas

Post by Lindalou on Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:43 am

I have a 37 gallon tank with 2 adult angel fish, 2 neons, and 2 Siamese algae eaters. Can I put my adult Betta in the tank with thee fish. Thanks.

I think mixing with the Angels isn't wise because of their shape being similar
in appearance. Some Bettas will pick on the Neons from personal experience, but since they are smaller and quicker they have been able to avoid harm in my tanks. Don't know about the Siamese algae eaters.

As 2tall has said angels and bettas are not a very good mix because like most cichlids they hve a tendancy to pick on the slow moving bettas long fins angels can be even worse because they will occupy a simmilar lever of the tank rather than being at the bottom common with most other cichlids. the other problem i can see is when fullg grown the angels are likely to eat the neons plus the neons would be alot better of in a group of 4+
If i was you i would switch the neons for cardinal tetras which looks simmilar but are smaller and go for
2 Angels fish
10 Cardinal tetra
2 Siamese algae eaters
10 Corys

That should be a good amount stocking wise and will make the tank look a lot more active and colourful.

You are very welcome Lindalou. You'll find the people here very willing to
help out. Since the majority are in the UK and are eight hours ahead of me
I'd post questions before retiring. When I rose in the mornings I'd usually
have an answer or two. LOL! I'm not really all that knowledgeable, but you'd be
surprised at the tidbits one picks up from following the different threads.

There is a wealth of information stored in the old threads and you can sometimes
find answers there. Especially if its a health related issue you need to resolve quickly.
