Oil on the surface of the water

Post by Mutsu on Sun Sep 26, 2010 11:38 am

From the food (Attison's betta). Will it cause any harm or am I just nitpicking? If it is a problem I don't know how I could remedy it xD
It's not a massive amount, just a marbling on the surface of the water.

I don't know if it would be harmful, but I would be inclined to siphon it off myself.

I siphon it off every week when I do my water change, so it's only there in the later half of the week (due a water change tomorrow) but it still bugs me xD

It's not harmful - as well as from the food it'll probs be the usual dust/particles in the air resting on the surface. A good way to get rid of it is by carefully placing a piece of kitchen tissue on the top and removing it quickly. The tissue will take the film with it Smile

Yeah my 2.5gal gets that on the top all the time. I put a cup in the water and let the lip only JUST below the surface so it takes in water. It'll only take from the top unless put put it in too far and it draws in all that surface stuff. I wait till it's on about 1/2 the tank till I do it, then add a little bit of fresh water from then. (I keep about 2 gallons on hand ready to use at all times).

:D
