New Orange Striped Corys :)

New Orange Striped Corys :)
Here are my latest additions! I had never seen this variety of cory before and thought they were lovely. Might get some more if they are still in stock at the weekend! The orange really stands out under aquarium lighting.

They were £8.50 each so can't afford loads, but they're so nice I definitely might pick up a couple more if I can afford it this weekend - it depends what bettas the shop gets in and whether I buy one
Ahh, they were labelled as 'orange stripe corys', obviously they have a couple of common names, so I'll have a look on the catfish website to find a little more about them. I've also found somewhere with green corys for sale, I'm hoping to pick some up once my new tank is finished.

Thats fairly good price. How many have you got? they do best in 4+. They dont have a scientific name but there C number is Cw010. Yeah you can get green laser corys aswell there Cw009
Theres some good pics here but not much info at all which is unusal for quite a popular fish.

Re: New Orange Striped Corys :)
I just got two, not sure of the sexes yet though. I've never had any problem keeping corys in twos and threes though obviously if I had the room I'd have as many as possible, and I may get another pair if I can afford it on Saturday.
We have two peppered and two bronze in my boyfriend's community tank, thinking they'd shoal together all being corys but they've always just ignored each other and stuck in pairs! They're forever spawning so they must be happy, though the eggs just get eaten right away by the greedy danios. (I dislike danios.) I also have three albino corys in one of my betta tanks, they're all happy and active, plenty to do amongst the plants and filter flow
I saw the green laser ones on there, never seen any for sale though, I shall keep an eye out! They're lovely. Do you think the green and orange would shoal together, or just stick to their own subspecies?

Re: New Orange Striped Corys :)
If there over 1" i would say you have 2 males there. They can do fine in pairs but they are best to keep in shoals because they are shoaling fish and live in groups of hundreds in the wild.
This is a video of corys in the wild
Different types dont normally shoal that tight unless very simmilar that why if you are mixing corys its best to have 4 plus of each type. gold and greens might shoal together as they are so simmilare but the other thing is will they cross breed because there so close. Im not sure but it could be possible.

They had some albinos too I think. I'm going to put two cories into each section of my new divided tank, so will be shopping for more

Re: New Orange Striped Corys :)
I got two of the green laser corys yesterday... they were a bit expensive at £16 each, but I really wanted them. They're shoaling just fine with my orange ones, all friends
Ed likes them too
he's always trying to snuggle in with them at night.

Are the lasers smaller than the peppers? And how many gallons are your sections in the divided tank KJ?

Re: New Orange Striped Corys :)
At the moment they're all in Ed's tank temporarily as we've only just done the divided tank and are leaving it a few days for the silicone to properly cure (my stuff for it took ages to come from ebay, and the perspex was a real hassle to cut!) They'll be going into the divided tank in about two days, each section is about 15 litres (tank is 60 litres total) and there'll just be a pair in each section. Have been taking pics of my build as we go along!
The biggest of the lasers, which I'm assuming is the female, is about one and three quarter inches, the rest are about one and a half inches including tails. They're smaller than my boyfriend's peppers by quite a bit but they might have a little bit of growing left to do.

Re: New Orange Striped Corys :)
I was asking because I have a pepper and two neons with a c/t in a 37 litres tank
which I want to divide. The pepper is around 3" long and I hate to reduce her space in half. Shes been such a nice fish!
I may end up doing that until I set up another 37 litres tank as I plan on getting some(5 or 6) more since they do better in groups. I didn't understand this at the time and she was only 3/4". I would have bought more then so they could grow together. Hopefully I can some in the 2" range.
Hopefully I can locate them locally as I've never ordered fish from the internet. Always a first though I guess! Thanks KJ!

Did you get any new bettas Natalie? I ended up getting two on Saturday
yeah the green ones were expensive, the orange ones are just as lovely, are yours settling in well? Glad they're all shoaling together! My albinos are still tiny, they were miniscule when I bought them.
