coz' my daddy gave my Betta fish named Kenneth an ant to eat and my fish ate it and he looks so happy while eating it...

can you please tell me if it's ok giving my Betta fish an ant for a treat?

I do pop the odd roaming ant into my betta's tank and he loved it! In the wild, ants often fall off overhanging leaves & branches into the water & their struggles instantly attract the attention of bettas who are surface feeders.

Agree with those replies who warned against using ants in pesticide-sprayed areas and those really big ants. Ants do contain formic acid which they use as a defence mechanism but the occasional 1-2 small common black ants shouldn't be a problem. The main regular diet for bettas should be dried betta pellets and any live or frozen food are only to be occasional treats.

You just have to be careful that the ants haven't come from an area where pesticides have been sprayed.
