Tank Divider Question

Post by Irish_Lass on Sat Apr 17, 2010 7:53 pm

For a while now I've been thinking about buying a tank for the cory' catfish and dividing the 9 gallon so I can have 2 bettas rather than 1. Is there any tank dividers out there that don't require me gluing them to the tank etc.? The only reason I don't want to glue anything is because if it doesn't work out then I'd like to revert back easily.

make sure you get it to go as close to the lid as possible so they cant jump it.

Thanks Kiz. One of my concerns is that both my tanks are ClearSeal tanks. They come with like wee mini ledges on the front and back of the tank. I think they're going to mean that I can't divide the tank.

what ive done on my small 10g that i have endler fry in is to silicone 2 little tracks on each side of the ledges and slip the divide inbetween them. it might be a little fiddle but you could cut out a small slit on each side for the ledge to go into and then it would reach the lid so there wouldnt be much of a chance for a betta to jump it.

I don't think I know what you mean kiz. I've been looking at my tank trying to figure it out but its not sinking in. My fault, not yours. Plus, the problem is that I have nowhere to house the fish so there is no option for silicone to dry out etc.

You can still divide under the lip, and just lower the water level slightly to account for this - and I have divided a tank before and had easy removal of the strips even when glued

it isnt much work if you ever decide to revert back Smile

Thanks Haych! I never thought about lowering the water level. Good thinking!

So my tank measures 18" x 12" x 12" but I don't really know which divider (that kiz shows above in his link) to go for.

My tank is like this one, its measurements are below (18"x12"x12")

My confusion (because God knows its easily done!) is which measurements I should be looking at for the divider.

Yep^^ so it looks like the divider is going to have to be approx 12x18.

what i was meaning is silicon 2 lines under each of the ledges and fit the divider inbetween the 2 lines of silicon. does that make more sence? its hard to explain

So I've just bought a divider on eBay. It should be here next week some time. Fingers crossed that it doesn't require a lot of assembling. I'm excited about the potential for another fishie!

you can take the little clips that hook on the side of and it should be stable enough with just the plastic to stay in place. there easy to put together you just slide the plastic over the sides.

is it going in the 9G with the corys? if it is it will be a little small for the corys to live on one side.
