Question about Apistogrammas

Post by Vandraco aka Bronzecat on Thu Oct 29, 2009 4:14 pm

Hi
I cant decide what to get for my 40g tank?

I like Golden Rams, but if i have them I wont be able to get any Apistos. Have been told that i could try two different pairs. I saw some very nice Apistogramma hongsloi Very Happy Would these work with a pair of Apistogramma agassizi?

Cheers

maybe but i think they may battle if they decide to breed... they will happily breed in 5-10g tanks so set up another if you needed an excuse LOL Smile

yh 2 pairs will be fine in a 40g tank and you could stil have a plec or corys. they say you should have 20g per male so 2 would be fine. you might evan want to trios they do better in trios and you need 20g per trio . hongsloi are lovely and will be fine in the same conditions a Agassizii.

i wouldnt but them in anthink below 10g mine are agressive enough to each other in a 10g but in a 5g they just wouldnt be able to get away from each other and the males of most tipes get to about 3 inches.

Thanks guys:)
I'll try and build some visual barriers in across the middle of the tank to help with the territories.
We have a 16g set-up with some female bettas & Corys, so i suppose a pair could be put in there if anything happened?

yh thats a good idear if you put caves at eather end of the tank but not in the middle.
i dont think bettas and apisto would get on to good and if they breed they wouldnt be keen on the corys.
